Morningstar DirectSM: Institutional Categories
The Morningstar Institutional Categories for portfolios available for sale in the United States were launched in response to feedback from Morningstar's institutional clients for more granular definitions to assign portfolios to peer groups. The new system has many more categories that can more thoroughly identify distinct investment strategies.
The new categories allocate portfolios into peer groups using the same holdings-based methodology already employed by the Morningstar Categories, which were introduced in 1996. The key difference is that the Institutional Categories have narrower parameters, allowing for more sophisticated and detailed peer group comparisons. This new system is intended to help institutional investors identify true peers, build more thoroughly diversified portfolios, and gain more insight into an individual portfolio's strategy.

Morningstar® EnCorr®: Index Data Enhancements
Our development team has been hard at work to bring you Morningstar EnCorr index data enhancements. The latest version makes available new index families, more timely index data updates, and improved transparency to the index data update schedule (Go to 'Help' in Morningstar EnCorr menu, then click on 'Data Update Schedule').
Download and install the latest version of Morningstar Encorr to gain access the data update schedule link in the help menu. As always, please follow the protocol outlined by your IT department regarding downloads. The new version will over-write any existing versions of Morningstar EnCorr.

Morningstar Workstation: Performance Reporting
Workstation provides a comprehensive toolkit for the calculation, and benchmarking of fund performance information. This platform lets users define their own analysis parameters and incorporate private data into performance calculations. It offers more than 85 calculation options, includes analysis in 85 currencies, and provides 15,000 indexes to help users assess the performance and suitability of funds.
With the most recent release, we are pleased to introduce a variety of enhancements including presentation-ready fund performance charts, the delivery of daily pricing updates, fund history drill-down features, and a new market share module. Read the full press release for additional details.

In response to feedback from our Morningstar Institutional Software clients, we added to our database 124 HFR Indices.
HFRI and HFRX Indices performance data is now available in Morningstar Direct and will be available in Morningstar EnCorr by next month's data production.
