When a security changes its ticker/CUSIP you may see out of balances (OOB) in the Failed import blotter. These OOBs can be corrected using our Replace Holding tool.
Important Notes:
You should never do a replace holding for money market or cash holdings. This can create irreversible damage to the transactions history and reporting for the accounts.
You should not do a replace holding if there is an OOB with the same Ticker/CUSIP and the Position Type column is the same for both line items. This would be a mapping Issue. Click here for instructions on how to handle mapping issues.
You will have one OOB in Blue that shows 0.00 in the Custodian Position (Shares) column, but shows a position in the Morningstar Position (Shares) column. This is the old ticker.
The other OOB will be in Red and will have the position in the Custodian Position (Shares) column, but will show 0.00 in Morningstar Position (Shares).
The Position Type column should be the same for both of these OOB.
Once you’ve verified that this is a ticker/CUSIP change, select the two OOBs for one account.
Click on Action, Replace Holding. In the Replace Holding dialog box, the system will select by default the security that the custodian shows a position in.
If you have this holding in more than one account, you can choose the Apply holding replacement for all accounts in Reconciliation Blotter for this source/target pair option.
You’ll also want to copy the Imported Prices from the source security to the target security. You can do this by checking the box in the ‘Security Price Option’ field.
Another dialog box will pop-up detailing the price move. Click OK to this dialog box.
Click Replace Holding on the first dialog box and Yes to the message asking if you’d like to re-reconcile.
You should no longer have OOB for those holdings.
